Downtown Portland, Maine. March 2025. Cold winds make a 40-degree day feel like a 20. Perfect conditions for a local place that exudes hygge. Resurrected and renamed, in 2015 this dive bar took over after the age-old Sangillo's closed. A small space with big smiles and great service. Not the best place for a big crowd but if you get there at the right time it could work. I was greeted immediately by the bartender. A quick cold beer was served and I asked for some help with a menu choice the Steak Bomb sandwich was chosen and it didn't disappoint. I prefer softer breads with sandwiches. This one soaked up the juices. Fries were crisp, not overcooked and complete with a hint of seasoning. I add malt vinegar. Comfort pub food at its best. Two big screens to keep up with games. Will go again.

My gf and I were in Portland today and saw Tomaso’s ... We were hungry but didn’t know what to think at first.. so we checked out the reviews before going in.. let me just say. The reviews about how delicious the Steak and Cheese Sub and Dump Truck Fries are worth the hype!! Sooooo Good!! It’s a cozy venue with a very pleasant and attentive staff! We went in hungry and left happy and very satisfied ! This place is definitely worth the visit!

Tomaso’s Canteen has quickly become my go-to lunch spot. Their mac and cheese loaded with bacon and iconic red hot dog slices is next-level comfort food. The wings are solid too—crispy, flavorful, and always hit the spot.

Stopped in for drinks before finding dinner but we enjoyed the vibe, service and drinks so much we stayed the evening and had great wings and pasta. Even though it was a Sunday, it was hopping. Shawna provided great service and advice on breweries to visit.

Love getting to visit here! The atmosphere felt so comfortable and personal. My buddy and I came for drinks and felt right at home. We had the mac and cheese with chicken tenders and bacon. Definitely recommend trying that dish out as it was delicious!

Oh, what to say about Tomaso's but if you're looking for a small little hole in the wall for one of the best steak bombs ever in New England, then look no further. This is the place to be. It looks intimidating at first but you realize upon entering it's just a vibrant, intimate little sit-down bar. All the neon and lights inside just adds to its rustic charm. Now to the main subject, the steakbomb. Tender, very peppery shredded beef, red peppers, succulent onions, and that cheese sauce. Oh, the cheese sauce. Just perfectly salty, creamy, and perfect to dip your crunchy fries into. Think 'a grungy biker with a teddy bear personality' energy. This is what Tomaso's is and I'm all for it. I can't wait to go back again sometime. Local beer on tap, too! Delicious!

GET THE MAC & CHEESE! So cheesy and delicious! Definitely recommend the hot dog and the chicken tender macs they were so yummy! Fried pickles were cooked perfectly and came with a super yummy sauce. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite!

Steak bombs will save your life. Sub weighed 5lbs of solid slamming. Plus getting food past 11pm on a Tuesday in Portland wins my heart.
